Internship FYI

I've talked to a few people about it, but just so everyone's up to speed:

I interviewed on Thursday with the Long Island Studies Institute at Hofstra University. After about 15 minutes, they pretty much asked me if I was going to take a position there. Not "You're hired," but rather "So, are you going to work with us?" Always nice to feel wanted. I'll be working there Wednesdays and Thursdays during the week and Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays I'll be at the Brentwood Library. I guess I'm back to full working man status again. The 120 hours should be fulfilled by either the end of July or the beginning of August.

Cool huh?

And While I'm At It

In honor of Episode III, new pics from

The Adventures of B'Layse Callister

are available for your viewing pleasure.

I Went

Despite my intentions otherwise, I went to see the final Star Wars flick today. I paid my $6.50 matinee admission and found a decent seat in a pretty uncrowded theatre. In the interest of those of you who haven't seen it and are still debating the issue, I'll say this:

It wasn't bad.

On the grand scale of Star Wars films, Episode 3 is on par with (and maybe even a little better than) Return of the Jedi. It certainly beats the pants off of Phantom and Clones. George Lucas seemed to finally remember that one of the reasons people go to see these films is to have their "Wow!" Buttons pushed. He managed to do it several times during the film. Plus, if you're a fan of lightsaber fights, people seem to start swinging them at the drop of a helmet in this film. Some of them are pretty neat too.

The drawbacks are the same ones that other people have pointed out; namely that there is no chemistry whatsoever between Padme and Anakin. These people are supposed to be having a love affair so great that they're risking their social positions to pursue it. Great. Now maybe if you could act like it once in awhile...

Vader's ultimate fall (hope I'm not spoiling anything) has the same problem. For the most part, his turning to the dark side seems to occur because the script tells him he's supposed to, not because he's experiencing a grand moral quandary.

And lastly, of course, are the unresolved issues that never really get explained. Lucas attempts to tie some things up, but others that one would assume would have been answered sometime during the last three pictures continue on unanswered.

So am I glad I went? Yeah, I guess I am. I saw it in the same theatre that I've seen every one of them since Empire in, I got to see the whole schebang come to an end, and I can only wonder what kind of movie it would have been if it had been done fifteen years earlier, with a different cast, and a different director.

School's Out Forever!

So that it. Handed in my final paper yesterday and finsihed my classroom requirements for my Masters. Now all I have to do is complete my 120 hours as an intern and I'll officially be Captain Librarian!

Seems pretty strange that it's all done, but, then again it probably isn't. Not to jinx myself, but I'm sure there will be another hurdle that'll sideswipe me before I get my final piece of paper saying I'm all done. If college has taught me nothing, it's taught me that they F ya in the A anytime they can.

Until that time though, Alice Cooper is on permanent repeat in my noggin.

Peace! I'm outta here!
